Guilty pleasure?

As usual, Mr David Eric Grohl here is totally spot on. If you like something, like it. I get most uppity about this when I read film reviews of romantic comedies. Some films are there to do what they say on the tin, not change the world.

I love The Godfather and documentaries about the financial crisis but sometimes after a stressful day, I want to watch the guy get the girl with some jokes and obstacles in between. So here is my go-to list when I want to switch my brain off.

Save the last dance

There is nobody better than late 90s/early 00s Julia Stiles, especially late 90s/early 00s Julia Stiles dancing. You saw her do a drunk table dance in 10 things I hate about you. Now see a film that is JUST her dancing. To hip-hop. With one of the greatest dance scenes ever at the end. And if you've seen the film, you've just remembered how good that dance scene is and you're going to YouTube it immediately. No need! Here's the link.

Best quote: "This ain't no square dance."                                                                                           "That's alright, I dance in circles - probably around you."

Sweet Home Alabama

SWEEEET HOOOOME ALABAAMAAAAAA *guitar riff*

So many people I know haven't seen this! Reese Witherspoon is a fashion designer from Alabama who gets engaged to Patrick Dempsey, who's a big deal rich guy (he's running for mayor or something). She has to go back to Alabama to get a divorce from her first husband. Problems ensue! I love this film.

Best quote: "Like I could tip a cow....by myself!"

Chalet Girl

Ed Westwick aka Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl is in this. I don't have to say anything else to sell this.

Best quote: "You've got brains in your head, feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose."

Bring it on

Awesome, oh wow, like totally freak me out, I mean, right on. 'Cause Torros sure are number one.

This is a cheerleading film and I know ALL THE CHEERS DON'T TEST ME SERIOUSLY. I have a bit of a thing for Kirsten Dunst (ok, I'm in love with her). This film is actually about how black people aren't taken as seriously as white people because the areas black people live in are generally more socially deprived and so they have fewer opportunities. But there's cheerleading.

Best quote: "Follow me or perish, sweatermonkeys."

How to lose a guy in 10 days

Kate Hudson is one of these actors who could have done much better films. She was nominated for an Oscar once! But in a way, I'm glad because it means we have this gem. Kate Hudson and Matthew Mcconaughey together are like POETRY.

She's a journalist who has to scare a man away using the 'classic' mistakes women make. He's trying to prove he can make any woman fall in love with him. The supporting cast in this is amazing too - Catherine Hahn and Adam Goldberg are my favourites.

Best quote: "Our love fern! You let it die!"

Please order the dvds and get your 'to watch' lists updated on Netflix immediately. These will go perfectly with a bacon roll and hangover, or just as a little pick-me-up if you haven't felt so great this week. Tell me if you, like, ohmygodlove any of these or have any other "guilty pleasures" I need to know about.
